I’m from Racine, currently living in London, and I have been trying to work out a good Wisconsin kringle recipe for years. This is all fascinating and SO helpful. Thank you for writing it!
How amazing that this found you! I’d love to hear more about what it was like growing up in Racine. Do you have Scandinavian roots?
It’s fascinating because the Midwestern Swedish Kringle and the Racine Kringle are actually quite different. At first, I thought the Swedish one was trying to emulate the Racine version – closer to the Danish style – but it turns out they’ve taken separate paths.
I’ve been meaning to bake a Racine-inspired kringle too! It’s definitely on my list.
If you ever want to compare notes, I’d love to chat – or hear what your ideal version would look like.
Thank you so much! I love hearing that – kringle seems to hold a special place for so many in the Midwest. It was such a joy to dig into its story and follow it back across the Atlantic. I’m so glad the recipe speaks to you.
What a lovely piece of writing! Thanx!

Fascinating story behind the pastry. I used to live in the Midwest so a Kringle is very nostalgic. This recipe looks delicious.
